Hyperplane (Affax) Mac OS

If you install macOS on an additional volume of your startup disk, you can switch between that macOS and the macOS on your other volume, as if each were on a separate disk. And because storage space is shared across APFS volumes, you don't need to reserve space for the new volume. Its size automatically adjusts to fit your content.

What you need

Change the filename extension to zip. For example, rename xyz.ext to anyname.zip. Extract the contents of the zip archive to a folder and locate an affix (. Aff) file, a spelling dictionary (.dic) file or a hyphenation dictionary (.dic) file. Rename these files using the language ISO codes as given in the table below. Your Mac must already be using macOS High Sierra or later on an APFS-formatted startup disk. Find out which format your startup disk is using.

You don't need to reserve storage space for the new volume, but macOS needs as much as 20GB of available space to install, depending on the version of macOS. If you don't have enough space, the installer will let you know.

About This Mac includes a storage overview: Choose Apple () menu > About This Mac, then click Storage. Ultimate fighter free.

Back up your Mac

It's a good idea to back up your Mac first, especially if you're installing a beta version of macOS. Beta software is software that is still in development, so some apps and services might not work as expected.

Add an APFS volume

  1. Open Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  2. In the sidebar, select your existing APFS volume.
  3. Choose Edit > Add APFS Volume from the menu bar, or click in the Disk Utility toolbar. These options are available only when an APFS volume is selected.
  4. Type any name for the new APFS volume, then click Add:
  5. Disk Utility should now show the new volume in the sidebar. The new volume will also appear in the Finder, as if it were a separate disk. You can now quit Disk Utility.

Install macOS on the volume

Choose an installation method:

  • To install a beta (prerelease) version of macOS, enroll in the Apple Beta Software Program and follow the installation instructions on the program website.
  • To install a release version of macOS, you can use macOS Recovery. The keys you press at startup determine which macOS is installed.

When the installer opens and you're asked to choose where to install, click Show All Disks, then select the new volume.

Switch between macOS versions

After installation is complete, you can use Startup Disk preferences or Startup Manager to quickly switch between each macOS:

  • Choose Apple () menu > Startup Disk, then click and enter your administrator password. Select the volume that you want to use, then click Restart.
  • Or press and hold the Option key during startup. When prompted, choose the volume that you want to start up from.

Keep the macOS on each volume up to date

To find the latest updates for each version of macOS, check for software updates, then start up from the other volume and check for software updates again.

Learn more

If your Mac is using macOS Sierra or earlier, or the startup disk is formatted as Mac OS Extended instead of APFS, you can create a new partition instead. The space it occupies doesn't automatically adjust to fit your content, so you must manually size the partition. Learn how to add a volume to a device formatted as Mac OS Extended.

Prerequisites

  • CSAIL Kerberos installed and configured properly

Note on macOS High Sierra 10.13

Due to the conversion from HFS+ to APFS on 10.13, prior to performingthe macOS High Sierra upgrade, any installed OpenAFS or AuriStorFSmust be uninstalled or upgraded to AuriStorFS!see Uninstalling OpenAFS Ftp freeware download.

Obtaining

You can obtain OpenAFS client installer from the AuriStorFS download webpage:

Installation

  1. Double click on the downloaded file. It will open the installer.
  2. Click on the Auristor-Lite.pkg icon then click on Continue and provide the machine credentials to allow installation.
  3. Click though until you have to provide the AFS cell configuration details.
  4. Provide the following information in the input fields. Torpedo: a stewardess training program mac os.

  5. Click through to finish install

Recommended settings for laptops

Install the AFS menu, but only start the AFS client service whenneeded.

  1. Go to Apple System Preferences AuriStor Tokens
  2. Set 'Start AFS at boot' to NO (If your laptop is relativelysedentary, you can try YES)
  3. To use the AFS menu to start/stop AFS and obtain tokens whendesired, set 'AFS Menu', 'Backgrounder', and 'Use aklog' to YES.You will need to click the OpenAFS icon (gold padlock in the menubar) and choose 'Startup AFS' before accessing AFS.

Before putting your laptop to sleep or switching/disconnecting fromnetworks, you should temporarily turn off AFS (AFS menu ShutdownAFS) and then turn it back on when your network connection is stableagain.

  • Alternative from the command-line:sudo launchctl [stop | start] org.openafs.filesystems.afs

Recommended settings for desktops

Obtain Kerberos and AFS credentials automatically: Whenever you loginto your computer while connected to Internet, Kerberos tickets and AFStokens will appear automatically. Postbox 7 0 8.

  1. Ensure that your CSAIL username and password match what appears inApple System Preferences Accounts.
  2. Go to Apple menu System Preferences AuriStor Tokens
  3. Set all options to YES ('Get Krb5 credential at login' and 'get[AFS] credential at login time' do the automagic; 'Use aklog','AFS Menu', and 'Backgrounder' needed for full functionality)

It is also possible to apply these settings to laptops, with thefollowing caveats: Angels that kill (itch) mac os.

  • If disconnected from the network at login time, you will be promptedineffectually for your CSAIL Kerberos password after login: Click'Cancel'. (Minor/wishlist for AFSBackgrounder)
  • If connected to a network that doesn't allow CSAIL DNS lookups orkerberos connections, LoginWindow will hang first when you clickyour username, and then attempting to authenticate your password, for about 3 minutes each time. Pressing Cmd+Opt+Esc might skip thedelay.

Logging into AFS (aka Obtaining AFS tokens)

Without authenticating, you may be able to read AFS directory listings, but will not be able to read or write where you expect to. To accessfiles, either:

  1. Use the AFS menu:
    1. Click the AuriStor icon on your menu bar
    2. If 'Startup AFS' is visible, click it, then click the AuriStor iconagain (Login with your CSAIL Kerberos username in lowercaseand @CSAIL.MIT.EDU all in uppercase).
    3. Click 'Get New Token'. If prompted, enter your CSAIL kerberosusername and password. – or:
  2. From the command line (eg, Terminal.app):
    1. kinit
    2. aklog

Credentials obtained using either approach will expire after 12hours. (If you've turned it on, the AuriStor Menu icon will show a red Xwhen this happens.) Repeat the above instructions (A or B) to regainaccess.

Accessing AFS from Finder

(It may take a long time to load if this is the first time you are accessing the folder and if you are on the wireless network)

  • Click On Finder - Go - Go To Folder
  • Specify your Destination Path: [/afs/csail.mit.edu/…]

Creating An Alias

  • Hold Option and Command buttons and drag the AFS folder to a localpreferred location on your Mac.

Troubleshooting notes

  • Finder doesn't match what you just did to AFS (restarting AFS,getting tokens, …)
    • Force-quit Finder, or log out of OS X and back in again. (Thisis a bug that Apple is getting slowly better about in eachversion of Mac OS.)
  • AFS Shortcuts disappear between reboots.
    1. Open terminal
    2. Show all files by typing: chflags nohidden ~/Library; hit enter
    3. Remove the it.infn.lnf.network.AFSBackgrounder.plist from bothof these locations: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ and/Library/Preferences
    4. Reboot
    5. Since you just deleted AFS preference files, you will need to gointo System Preferences, and re-configure AFS option describedabove in the 'Recommended Settings for [Laptop | Desktop]'
